Mon p\u00e8re Tejendra \u00e9tait fils a\u00een\u00e9 du c\u00e9l\u00e8bre r\u00e9volutionnaire Jatindra N\u00e2th Mukherjee, le premier adjoint de Sri Aurobindo, auteur de la lutte arm\u00e9e pour lib\u00e9rer l\u2019Inde. Tout le long de son parcours, Tejendra avait maintenu un contact avec le Chef, devenu le Sage de Pondich\u00e9ry. Invit\u00e9 par Sri Aurobindo, en 1947, Tejendra \u2013 en compagnie de son \u00e9pouse Ush\u00e2 R\u00e2ni \u2013 avait f\u00eat\u00e9 le 15 ao\u00fbt \u00e0 Pondich\u00e9ry : ce 75e anniversaire de la naissance de Sri Aurobindo allait d\u00e9sormais c\u00e9l\u00e9brer \u00e9galement le jour de l\u2019ind\u00e9pendance de l\u2019Inde. Rentr\u00e9s \u00e0 Calcutta, mes parents n\u2019avaient qu\u2019un objectif : celui de nous faire conna\u00eetre cet \u00e2shram, ce coin de paradis sur terre. Accueillis par Sri Aurobindo et la M\u00e8re lors de notre visite un an plus tard, nous y trouv\u00e2mes notre vraie demeure. Rothin avait treize ans (natif de f\u00e9vrier 1934); moi, onze (natif d\u2019octobre 1936); Togo (natif de d\u00e9cembre 1937).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A Calcutta, heureux avions-nous \u00e9t\u00e9 sous notre toit, entour\u00e9s par l\u2019amour de nos parents et des cousins. N\u00e9anmoins, \u00e0 notre insu, nous \u00e9tions meurtris par une vie sociopolitique de plus en plus dure&nbsp;: les V2 traversant le ciel; la famine artificielle cr\u00e9\u00e9e par Winston Churchill cons\u00e9cutive \u00e0 la Grande Guerre&nbsp;; pogrome lanc\u00e9 par la Ligue musulmane &#8211; au pouvoir en Bengale r\u00e9unifi\u00e9 par d\u00e9cret de 1911- contre la communaut\u00e9 hindoue&nbsp;sans d\u00e9fense; fuite massive vers Calcutta de r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s hindous pourchass\u00e9s au Bengale-oriental devenu l\u2019aile orientale du nouvel Etat de Pakistan&nbsp;; assassinat de G\u00e2ndhi. Sur le plan familial, d\u00e9c\u00e8s de Vinodeb\u00e2l\u00e2 D\u00e9vi, la tante bien aim\u00e9e de Tejendra (nous l\u2019appelions <em>Bordi<\/em>), pr\u00e9cieuse comme t\u00e9moin et m\u00e9moire vivante de la qu\u00eate spirituelle de son fr\u00e8re Jatindra ; d\u00e9c\u00e8s intempestif de Mishti \u2013 \u00ab&nbsp;Douceur&nbsp;\u00bb -, notre petite s\u0153ur&nbsp;; l\u2019impitoyable ravage du virus de polio sur mes membres inf\u00e9rieurs&nbsp;: j\u2019avais cinq ans. Mes parents avaient trouv\u00e9 leur consolation aupr\u00e8s de Sri Aurobindo et la M\u00e8re<span class=\"footnote_referrer\"><a role=\"button\" tabindex=\"0\" onclick=\"footnote_moveToReference_3583_1('footnote_plugin_reference_3583_1_1');\" onkeypress=\"footnote_moveToReference_3583_1('footnote_plugin_reference_3583_1_1');\" ><sup id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_3583_1_1\" class=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text\">[1]<\/sup><\/a><span id=\"footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_3583_1_1\" class=\"footnote_tooltip\">La compagne fran\u00e7aise de Sri Aurobindo, Blanche Rachel Mirra Alfassa, surnom\u00e9e <em>la M\u00e8re<\/em>, qui devait fonder en 1968 <em>Auroville<\/em> : une communaut\u00e9 internationale pacifiste, au nord de Pondichery. Log\u00e9 au quartier de Chitpur, chez son oncle, m\u00e9decin bien connu de riverains de Calcutta du Nord, inscrit \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9, au Coll\u00e8ge Central du Nord, Jatindra n\u2019avait que dix-huit ans lorsqu\u2019il fit la connaissance du Sw\u00e2mi Viv\u00e9k\u00e2nanda, le moine qui guidait le devenir d\u2019un peuple assujetti, un peuple qui cherchait \u00e0 se lib\u00e9rer. Depuis fin 18e si\u00e8cle, sous l\u2019influence de R\u00e2mmohun Roy, soufflait dans ce micro climat de Calcutta du Nord un vent de renouveau. Devant se rendre \u00e0 un quartier du Sud, on avait l\u2019habitude d\u2019annoncer avec condescendance &nbsp;: \u00ab&nbsp;Je vais \u00e0 Bhav\u00e2nipur&nbsp;!&nbsp;\u00bb<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Enfant du Bengale rural, Jatindra n\u2019avait jamais oubli\u00e9 son pays d\u2019origine&nbsp;: natif du village de Koy\u00e2 en Nadi\u00e2, o\u00f9 les anc\u00eatres de sa m\u00e8re Sharat Shashi \u00e9taient propri\u00e9taires terriens qui g\u00e9raient aussi les biens des Tagore \u00e0 Silidah, \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 de Kushtia, territoire du Bangladesh depuis 1971. A moins d\u2019une centaine de kilom\u00e8tres de Koy\u00e2, habitait Umesh Chandra, le p\u00e8re de Jatindra. Cet \u00e9rudit en lettres sanskrites \u00e9tait connu pour ses trois amours&nbsp;: ses terres \u00e0 S\u00e2dhuh\u00e2ti Rishkh\u00e2li, en Jessore, \u00e9galement situ\u00e9 au Bangladesh d\u2019aujourd\u2019hui&nbsp;; ses chevaux&nbsp;; ses livres. Apr\u00e8s la mort h\u00e9ro\u00efque de Jatindra \u2013 dont nous parlerons tant\u00f4t \u2013 malgr\u00e9 le fait d\u2019avoir confisque tous ses biens, le gouvernement colonial avait laiss\u00e9, par inadvertance, quelques lopins de terre&nbsp;: de m\u00eame que l\u2019exploitation de certain d\u2019entre eux rapportait encore un peu de rente \u00e0 sa famille, d\u2019autres \u00e9taient usurp\u00e9s par des voisins amateurs de litiges qui, devant assister aux proc\u00e8s, ne semblaient conna\u00eetre que notre adresse \u00e0 Calcutta pour hospitalit\u00e9. Avant d\u2019aller \u00e0 Pondich\u00e9ry, nous appartenions d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e0 trois territoires&nbsp;: Calcutta du Sud (Ballyganj Place, o\u00f9 mon p\u00e8re avait fait construire notre maison), Calcutta du Nord (o\u00f9 habitaient toujours les membres de la famille maternelle de Jatindra)&nbsp;; notre village ancestral.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pour revenir \u00e0 la question de notre \u00ab mise \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2shram \u00bb je me souviens de l\u2019enthousiasme qui s\u2019\u00e9tait empar\u00e9 de nous, les trois fr\u00e8res, depuis notre rencontre avec la M\u00e8re et depuis que nous avion vu Sri Aurobindo. Nous avions envie de faire partie de cette exp\u00e9rience avec la libert\u00e9. On ne nous demandait que de vivre cette vie en joie.
