Usually, only permanent inhabitants feel concerned about municipal elections althought the decisions made by Town Councils apply to every household, including foreign students or short term missions workers dedicated to public works, consulting or lecturing, for example. That is why Contrib’City will put an English version to all the articles about Jouy-en-Josas local elections. Students and Researchers from HEC Business School (https://www.hec.edu/en) and INRA Agronomic Research Center (https://www.inrae.fr/en), temporary workers living for a short period in this town, all are kindly invited to read and comment this text and the coming ones about this example of local democracy.
Environmental and social issues take a major part of the electoral argumentations, probably because of a growing concern about those questions. As far as I am concerned, I have been working on deprived areas housing rehabilitation and on urban risks in Paris region, New York and London. Thus I am deeply interested in those local and serious problems and looking forward to study all the solutions that are officially getting on the public scene after a long time of “underground” life in Research and Lecturing.
One must not forget, notably in flooding issues, that what a city does may affect the neighbouring town located downstream. Let’s wish good luck to all the candidates. Let’s thank all the past or current actors who have been/are dedicated to local people’s power, and let’s remember that all the Paris region, French and European villages or cities must work toguether in order to reach a harmonious territory, at the regional, national or continental scale.
